Re: 2006 DOUGHTY 500 31 July thru 4 August
Home base will be the Days Inn on the S.W. side of Eau Claire. Lots of good restaurants in the area. Have 20 rooms blocked in the Doughty 500 name. $69, tax, etc. for one queen or two doubles and full breakfast. Phone 715-835-2242.
Plan to start Monday at 0930, lunch in Durand at the old Ford garage, then to Arkansaw to dedicate a list of students in the bell tower of the old Black school. Back to motel thru Eau Gallie. Monday evening we hope everyone can join us at the Timber Lodge where we will celebrate our 60th Wedding Anniversary. We have reserved a large room and you can order from the regular menu.
Have Tuesday scheduled for an off day. Wednesday we will go N.W. and have lunch at the Old Albertville Tavern at Hotterville Junction. Thursday and Friday still up in the air. Looking forward to seeing you all then or sooner.

Chickens, Eggs, Drinking, & Driving
Sean e-mails with congratulations:
Congratulations to you and Beth on the birth of Nathaniel. He looks like he will be a great Model T driver! We should have him driving in a year or two and drinking just a few months later. Or is it the other way around?
I am certain that Nathaniel was worth it but you and Beth missed a super Doughty 500 this year. Your brother kept us entertained by loudly (and slurred by the alcohol) proclaiming the way things were and then amending his statements after some counseling from his bride-to-be. Shauna is a super troop to have gone thru with things after first enduring a 500!
Vanessa and I send our best to you and your family (a little slow I recognize but we did get around to it) and look forward to seeing the little guy next year.
Pictures from Sean of the 2005 Doughty 500 are rumored to be on the way.
UPDATE: Jay wishes to offer this brief rebuttal:
...don't forget to add Sean's all-time classic line that he dropped on Audie when she tried to make a point: "Excuse me, the men are talking."
It was a show-stopper.

Gone To The Chapel
And he done got married. Jay and Shauna Doughty tied the knot on Friday September 9th in Richardton, North Dakota. Single women around the world were reported to be wailing and gnashing their teeth upon learning that Jay is no longer available on the market. Here's a pic from Brendan of the bride and groom (Jay's the one wearing black) immediately after the wedding:

And here's another shot from Brendan of Beth, Nathaniel, and I at the reception with Bernice looking on.

More later as they become available.

So Close You Can Almost Taste It
The Martini at the end of the day's driving that is. The 2005 Doughty 500 kicks off in two weeks. Here's the latest need to know information from Dan:
The plan is complete.
Day one, 18 July 05, 08:30. We will depart 4554 Eastland Ct and head to the North/Northwest. Lunch at Gilligans (a three hour tour?) on Lake Pokegama, Chetek, a PM break in Barronett then on to Siren.
Day two, 19 July 05, 09:00. Tour the Crex Meadows wildlife Area, lunch at
Ike Walton Lodge on Yellow Lake. PM tour to the Northeast.
Day three, 20 July 05, 08:30. Tour the Fish Lake Wildlife Area, the Burnett
and Polk Co. forest, lunch in Cushing. (Note; there are two bars in Cushing
that serve food. They are small and service may be slow but if we are
patient I think we well all get fed.) PM, More of the Co. forest and
wildlife area.
Day four, 21 July. No tour planned. Dinner that evening at the Northwoods
Crossing, it is right across the street from the motel. 6:00 PM Social Hour,
7:00 PM Dinner.
The menu;
Prime Rib, $14.00
Ribeye Steak, $18.00
 Pressure Fried Chicken, $11.00
Deep Fried Walleye, $15.00
Childrens Menu;
Chicken Tenders with Fries, $5.00
Corn Dog with Macaroni & Cheese, $5.
I will need your selection by Wednesday eve.
Day five, 22 July. Head for Eau Claire. Lunch at Luckys in Clear Lake. They will have a private room set up for us.
Everyone is welcome at 4554 Eastland for some after tour refreshments.
See ye all in two weeks, Dan
Please note all plans are subject to change, with out notice, at the
discretion of the tour director (Thats Me)

In The Genes?
Our Doughty Family has an interesting mission:
We are a group of modern day researchers interested in researching all the different variations and spellings of the surname Doughty. There are many different lines represented here. They are all distinct, but through DNA research, we have been able to prove that many of those lines are in fact related.

A Plan Comes Together
The 2005 Doughty 500 will be based out of Siren and will take place from July 18th through July 22nd. Siren was also the host city for the 1998 Doughty 500 and I'm told that the local bar owners are really looking forward to the economic boost that the 500 provides. The local constabulary has also been advised to be on the lookout for miscreants making "gas runs" with T's at three in the morning, so consider yourself warned.
Guests will be staying at the fabulous Best Western Northwoods Lodge in Siren. Dan advises that you can get a room for seventy-two bones as long as you mention that you're part of the tour. Make your reservations by June 18th by calling 1-877-349-7800 or you might be sleeping under the stars.
Sean was concerned about the whether there was a pool at the hotel and so he called to confirm. His conversation with the manager went something like this:
Sean: "You got a pool over there?"
Manager: "We have a pond in the back. We have a pool and a pond. The pond would be good for you."
If you have questions, you can drop Dan an e-mail at: dandy@cvol.net or call him at 715-835-0685.
